Welcome to the College of Health and Human Sciences, Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies (CASAT) website!
Our initial grant came from the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment and is currently called Mountain West Addiction Technology Transfer Center (MWATTC). This program has been in existence since 1993 and includes the states of Montana, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming. Through university-based courses, continuing education workshops, and distance education, MWATTC provides training for addiction treatment providers, criminal justice workers, and mental health professionals at the preservice and inservice levels.
CASAT also has the contract for the Western Region Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies (WestCAPT). This program is funded by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention and includes eleven states and six Pacific Jurisdictions. WestCAPT works with state agencies and community-based organizations to assist in the application of scientifically defensible prevention strategies and programs.
CASAT maintains a close working relationship with the Nevada Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Agency (SAPTA) through two continuing contracts. CASAT coordinates all continuing education activities for SAPTA. In addition, CASAT includes the Nevada Prevention Resource Center, Nevada's designated State RADAR (Regional Alcohol and Drug Awareness Resource) Network Center. The RADAR Network is the distribution system for NCADI (the National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information), and provides state and federal substance abuse resources free of charge for professionals in substance abuse treatment, prevention, recovery, and related fields; and the general public.
The main office of CASAT is at an off-campus University of Nevada, Reno, building and we are organizationally connected to the College of Health and Human Sciences. There are more than 20 staff members at our main office to assist you, as well as other staff in various parts of the Western Region.
