How many "F's" can one state tolerate?: A look at the health of Nevada and what one College at the University of Nevada, Reno, is doing about it.
We all know that our health statistics in Nevada are low, but do you really know how low and what impact that has/may have on Northern Nevada?
Nevada has one of the lowest overall social health scores in the United States, with a rank of 46 out of 50 for the second year in a row. It is a social recession state, and one of only four in the nation to receive 8 or more F’s. Many of the F’s are clearly related to economic issues.

Building a Healthy Nevada is a faculty driven framework that addresses Nevada's most pressing social/health needs. Through research, teaching, and outreach efforts, the College of Health and Human Sciences currently focuses on addressing five (out of nine) elements towards building a healthy society. To address the F’s listed above, the College faculty has focused on five (5) domains that must be supported to improve the well-being of Nevadans, the business climate, and to create the quality of life that we all want. Facilitating interdisciplinary research within the college and university and collaboration with external community agencies and government are key components of the Building a Healthy Nevada initiative.
