Message from the Associate Dean of Research and Evaluation

Associate Dean Deborah Loesch-GriffinWelcome to the Office of Research and Evaluation (ORE) webpage. ORE was launched in July, 2006, as a central point of contact for our on- and off-campus partners who require research and evaluation services for projects, programs or initiatives they are undertaking in local communities and throughout the state. ORE is housed Sarah H. Fleischmann Building and combines the unique expertise of faculty from various CHHS units to provide direct support, training and technical assistance to CHHS faculty, students and community partners to increase their capacity and productivity in carrying out research and evaluation activities. While we are continuing to grow our capacity to serve our students, faculty and community partners, we already have an impressive menu of services to choose from and college partners with whom we collaborate to meet a variety of research and evaluation needs. Check out our menu of services below!

ORE refers requests to the Center for Program Evaluation (CPE) that provides full-scale evaluations in the areas of family support, youth and community development, education and community health and wellness. ORE works with CPE and the Nevada Evaluation Association (NEA) to offer an annual credit-earning summer Evaluation Training Institute and one-day evaluation workshop each fall. ORE also refers requests to the Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies (CASAT), which offers expertise in research-based and evidence-based practices, programs and policies along with specific research and evaluation services geared toward organizations and coalitions involved in the prevention and treatment of substance abuse.

ORE is in the process of developing the CHHS Virtual Research Tour, which will be geared to new and junior faculty, but will support on-line navigation for any faculty member or graduate student wanting to pursue external funding to conduct their research. Look for this addition to our webpage in Fall of 2007!

We will work with our Building a Healthy Nevada Initiative to identify priority areas for multi-disciplinary research in collaboration with local, county and state partners. A main emphasis of ORE is to promote interdisciplinary research and community-based, participatory evaluation on cross-cutting issues affecting our state’s social health status. We at ORE believe that the university, and in particular CHHS faculty and students, are uniquely qualified to address some of our state’s most pressing issues by collecting and sharing data and findings from our research and evaluation efforts with providers and policy-makers in the field. Improving practice and affecting positive social change is our ultimate goal. To this end, we will continue to listen to our constituents’ concerns and interests and work to bring the human and fiscal resources to bear on their priorities.
