Welcome to the Gerontology Academic Program website at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Adults over 65 currently constitute the fastest growing segment of the American population. In just a few years, they will be joined by 75,000,000 Baby Boomers entering retirement, and by 2030, the older population is expected to double. Regardless of your major, people who are older will be part of your career and your life. The demographic trends are even more pronounced in Nevada due to high in-migration of recent retirees. The growing number of these individuals will impact the economy, the health care system, and, most importantly, the job market.

In response to this challenging societal change, the Gerontology Academic Program prepares student scholars from a variety of disciplines to provide the highest quality of service to Nevada’s elder population. Our Gerontology Certificate Program has been deemed a Program of Merit by the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education. We are the first undergraduate certificate program in the country to achieve this important distinction.

For more information about the program, you are invited to peruse this website and/or send an email to gero@unr.edu. If you are on campus, stop by our offices to ask questions, explore your interest in gerontology, or just say ‘Hi.’ We maintain an open door policy and our Student Ambassadors, the Academic Advisor, and the Office Manager will welcome you to our program.
