| | July was not only my colleague, but was my long time work and research partner, and a great friend! Judy was the person who brought Behavior Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) project to Nevada. As early as 11 years ago, when Judy was still the Director of Center for Applied Research and PI for the BRFSS project, as State BRFSS Representative I started to work very closely with her. Together, we worked so hard for methodology, survey quality, annual reports, publications, grant proposals … Judy was the key person for making this project as a higher quality model nationwide.
Recently, I transferred my job to UNR, we were working even closer for BRFSS and other projects. Just few weeks ago, Judy and I had discussed the progresses for a peer reviewed journal publication which we co-authored and submitted. She suggested we started another paper this semester.
Judy was not only energized, passionate, intelligent, eager to learn, and brave to face challenges, but she was very thoughtful and helpful. She was the main joyful source for many of our group meetings, national conferences, and State and CDC site visits.
Judy’s legacy will be forever part of my career, I will try my best to carry forth the work left.
Judy, we miss you! | | |

| | Not only was Judy a colleague of mine, she was in several workshops I facilitated at Extended Studies. She was a joy in class...eager to learn...smart, bright, curious, and passionate about what she wanted to know. Judy was great energy to be around.
My thoughts and prayers or all who knew her, especially for her own family and friends...and for all of her UNR colleagues and HDFS family...mel | | |

| | I first met Judy in a hallway at UNR. We smiled at each other and moved on with the day. The next morning we crossed paths again but this time after our smiles we stopped and talked. It was Judy's nature to welcome others with a smile and a kind word. I have had many encounters with Judy over the years and I will remember her kind words, her smile and many good natured conversations. My deepest sympathies to family and friends. | | |

| | Dear Jim (and Judy's Family),
My thoughts and prayers have been with you and will continue for you.
I cherish the memories we have shared in the short time we have known you both, of dinner at the Hilton when we first met with our family and dinners at our home. Judy's interest in our activities in Kenya will remain special. Just a year ago Judy was among the first to offer moral support when Stephan's health issues arose. Jim, the special carry in dinner from B F Chang's that you and Judy shared with our family was a respite during a difficult time. Again in June, Judy struggled with us, when another family crisis arose, she was there for us and made a difference.
I am so sorry for your loss. I hope that we can be some comfort to you as Judy was to us. Take care Jim.

| | Judy was my friend. She was among the first to invite my family to join with her family in a personal get together. She and Jim brought take out food to our house and shared a breath of normality for my family when I first came home after brain surgery last year. Judy was my colleague who encouraged and expressed strong appreciation for various efforts that I tried to initiate as Department Chair. She was an early and hard working contributor to the College-wide "Building a Healthy Nevada" effort that so many of us worked on over the last couple of years. Judy was a good person full of life, never afraid to stand up for what she believed in, and always willing to consider others' ideas. She believed in discourse and loved the 'marketplace of ideas' for which the university should stand. Judy, you will be missed by family and friends and colleagues. You have touched the lives of many. The world is diminished for your parting. | | |
