Application Process


Application Process

There are two separate applications necessary for admission to the Master of Public Health program: one set of materials is to be sent directly to the Admissions Committee at the School of Community Health Sciences and the other directly to the Graduate School of the University of Nevada, Reno. Before applying for admission, please note the qualifications for admission.

Application 1:
The following materials are required for consideration for admission to the Master's Program in Public Health and are be sent directly to the Master Program in Public Health Admissions Committee at:

1. Three letters of recommendation from former instructors or employers indicating your capacity to do graduate work in public health. Have the letter writers send the recommendation directly to the MPH admission committee.

2. Complete the admission essay requirements listed in the following document: Essay Guidelines.

The essay can be submitted in hard copy with other application materials or sent on-line to the MPH program email address at

3. If you are submitting the LSAT, GMATs or MCATs instead of the GREs, send them directly to the MPH Admissions Committee at the address above.

4. Submit a statement of purpose, at least 500 words in length, outlining your desire to undertake graduate study in public health, your research interests, and your career objective. Send a hard copy to the MPH Admissions Committee or email it to the MPH program at the above address.

5. Applications received by February 1 (for Fall semester) and November 15 (for Spring semester) will receive first consideration. Applications received after these days will be considered on a space-available basis. No more than 20 students will be admitted to the MPH Program each academic year.

6. Acceptance depends on approval by the Master Program in Public Health Admissions Committee and the Graduate School.

A. Students with degrees from U. S. accredited institutions

1. Two official copies of transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended.

2. One official copy of GRE scores. If you are submitting the LSAT, GMATs or MCATs instead of the GREs, send them directly to the MPH Admissions Committee (not the Graduate School) at the address above.

3. Complete the Graduate Schools Application – http://www.unr.edu/grad/

4. A nonrefundable $60 ($40 for returning students and University of Nevada, Reno, alumni) check or money order payable to the Board of Regents.

 B. Students with degrees from non-U.S. institutions

1. Two official copies of transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended.

2. One official copy of GRE scores. If you are submitting the LSAT, GMATs or MCATs instead of the GREs, send them directly to the MPH Admissions Committee (not the Graduate School) at the address above.

3. One official copy of TOEFL scores, if required.

4. Obtain a copy of Resident Alien card, if applicable.

5. A nonrefundable $95 check or money order payable to the Board of Regents.
